Bon Iver Bring Spectacular Show To London

Indie folk band Bon Iver played the fifth concert of their 8-night residency at London’s Eventim Apollo last night to a sold-out crowd, in support of their latest album ’22, A Million’.

The dates follow their special one of a kind ‘For Emma Ten Year’ show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the worldwide release of their much-loved debut album ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’.

Fans of the band questioned whether there would ever be live dates in the UK after an unexpected cancellation of a 2017 UK tour, announced on social media for “personal reasons” early last year. The band were set to play Blackpool, Edinburgh and London in February.

Queues stretched across the street as fans waited in the snow to get inside the legendary Hammersmith venue.

Bon Iver played fan favourites ‘Skinny Love’ and ‘Holocene’ as well as a wide range of songs across their discography.

The band opened with the first two tracks from the latest album: ‘22 (OVER S∞∞N)’ and ‘10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄’ before moving seamlessly into ‘Towers’ from their self-titled effort. At the end of ‘715 – CR∑∑KS’ the bands frontman Justin Vernon mumbles “How y’all doing” with a huge grin on his face, “those are the first words I’ve said all day”, “thanks for being with us”.

They brought the first set to a close with ‘Perth’. “Now for a quick set break; about 22 minutes” Justin joked.

Set 2 began with ‘Blood Bank’ and featured some of the bands most popular songs, ‘Skinny Love’ and ‘Holocene’. “I feel like if we were all to die in this moment, it would be a pretty good way to go” Justin says to the audience.

The band ripped through a mesmerizing rendition of ‘33 “GOD”’ featuring an overwhelming light show.

Set 2 was brought to a close with the anthemic ‘Beth/Rest’. Before surprising the audience with a strobe laden encore of ‘The Wolves (Act I and II)’, with Justin urging the crowd to “spread love”.
